Canada Day service at Shorncliffe military cemetery

This is a YouTube video giving us some information on this service at Folkstone, England and Canadian connections with the area.

The annual Canada Day service took place at Shorncliffe military cemetery on Wednesday July 1, 2009. The graves of 296 Canadian soldiers are buried there, after the country's troops were stationed at the neighbouring barracks during the First World War. Civic dignitaries joined representatives from the Canadian High Commission and veterans for the service. Primary school children also laid floral tributes. Yourkenttv spoke to Major General Joe Hincke, commander of the Canadian Defence Liaison Staff, and Christine Baxter of the Canadian Veterans' Association of the UK.

Our thanks to Bob Parsons for letting us know about this Canadian connection with this area of England.
