University of Guelph Library
Rare Books

There are so many rare books at the Library that it would be impossible to go through them all but I thought I'd show you a cross section of some of it to whet your appetite :-)

Now here is a better look at the rare book shelves...

Opening up to locked door to the collection

And here you can see the shelving system and also the volume of books that can be stored on each rack. The picture on the right contains the Clan MacLeod Collection which is 6 shelves

And you can get a sense that inside each box a treasure will be found :-)

Oversize rare books on left and the L.M. Montgomery collection on the right

Here we see posters and maps being stored

And here is the Pioneer collection

And even more significant books are here and this is one that I'm told is requested often

And this is Linda Amichand another member of the library team

And Ellen found this issue of the Scottish Canadian and I decided to photograph the whole issue for you to read here :-)

And here we conclude this tour of the rare book section

There are a considerable number of transcripts of papers to do with Mary Queen of Scots

And just to illustrate the range these are old cuttings about the poet Robert Fergusson

And so I hope you will see from all the material shown in here that there is indeed a huge amount of Scottish material covering a huge range of content
