Belfast Families - Donald Ban Oig MacLeod of Murray Harbour Road


Donald Ban Oig MacLeod, of Valtos, Skye, emigrated to Prince Edward Island with the Uigg colonists in 1829. His wife Mary Martin, was sister of John Martin of Stenscholl, Skye, the father of Samuel Martin, of Uigg. Their issue were:

I. DONALD, b. 1818, d. 1896. Taught school on P.E.I. for a few years, and after visiting Scotland returned to Canada. At Linwick, Que., he married Mary Noble. He moved to Nairn, Ont., and after spending a few years there, settled in Parkhill, Middlesex Co., where he died. Their issue were :
1. EMMA, wife of William Thompson, of Windsor, Ont., with issue: Stewart Thompson, killed in action overseas;
2. MARTHA, wife of Peter Stewart, Calgary, with issue: Neil, Dunblane, Sask.; Gordon, Calgary; and Stanley, killed in action overseas;
3. DAVID NOBLE, Edmonton, married Jean Waters, with issue: Douglas (C.E., U. of T.), killed in action overseas; George (C.E., U. of T.) ; Helen, wife of Gordon Crozier, banker, Walkerton, Ont.; Agnes (B.A., U. of Alberta), Edmonton ;
4. MARY PRISCILLA, wife of Colin MacNiven, Marshall, Minnesota, with issue: Mary;
5. MATILDA, Winnipeg;
6. FREDERICK, Los Angeles, married Anna Kinnisten, with issue: Donald Keith (E.E. McGill) ;
7. EDWARD ALEXANDER, Parkhill, married Clara Holt, with issue: Murray;
8. KATALENA, Minneapolis, U.S.A. II. JOHN, married with issue;

III. MALCOLM, d. in Nebraska, married, first, Anne McPhee, d. 1866, of Brown's Creek, P.E.L, with issue:
1. MALCOLM, b. Dec., 1844, married, with issue ;
2. JESSIE, b. April, 1847, wife of Mr. Wight, Quincy, Mass., with issue;
3. DONALD, b. Sept., 1849, married, with issue;
4. JOHN J., Uigg, b. 1851, married Mary Finlayson of Leith, Scot., with issue: Louise and Malcolm;
5. REV. DONALD BAN, b. Aug., 1854, d. May, 1918, married Elizabeth Dyer, with issue: Elizabeth, wife of Rev. William C. Wauchope (Harvard). Buford, Georgia; 2nd Mary J. MacLeod, Kinross.
6. CHARLES, b. Aug., 1856, married, with issue;
7. ANGUS CHARLES, b. Aug., 1859, Langley, Wash., married, with issue;
8. RODERICK, b. Jan., 1861, married, with issue;
9. HUGH, b. May 13, 1863, Attorney-at-Law, Langley, Wash.;
10. MURDOCH WILLIAM, b. April 22, 1866, Langley, Wash., married, with issue;

IV. RODERICK, b. 1822, in Skye, d. 1896, at Murray Harbor Road, married Marjory, daughter of his first cousin, Charles Martin, of Heatherdale, P.E.I., with issue, among others:
1. FLORA, b. 1848, now of Grandview, widow of Alexander Gillis, with issue! John Alexander, Murray Harbor Road; Roderick, Charles, Marjory, Minnie, Alexander, Sadie, and Elizabeth;
2. MARJORIE, wife of Malcolm Gillis, Lyndale;
3. CHARLES;
4. CHRISTY, wife of Capt. Neil Campbell, Oakland, Cal., with issue, wife of Capt. William Mayne;
