Skye Pioneers and "The Island"
Belfast Families - The MacLeods of Glashvin (Pinette)


Malcolm MacLeod of Glashvin, Skye, and his wife, Effie Macdonald, of the Glengarry branch of that clan, arrived in Belfast, on the "Polly," in 1803.

The issue of Malcolm and Effie MacLeod were:

I. CHRISTINA, born in Skye about 1782, d. in Orwell, about 1862, wife of Donald Macqueen, with issue.

II. ANNE, wife of Alexander MacLeod, Skye, with issue: John who married his cousin Christina Macqueen, with issue;

1. DONALD,. Orwell, d. May 3, 1885, aged 53, married Catherine, sister of Old Captain MacLeod, with issue, among others, Murdoch, of Vancouver;
2. WILLIAM, of Sentie, Vernon River, who married his cousin Christina MacLeod of Glashvin, with issue, among others: Margaret, wife of Lemuel Hayden, Malcolm, Angus. Daniel, Bertha and Katherine;

III. ANGUS (Big) of Glashvin, d. Jan. 28, 1885, aged 88, married Margaret Dockerty, of Skye, d. Dec. 11, 1863, aged 64, with issue:

1. KATHERINE, wife of Ewen Martin, Eldon, with issue;
2. JOHN, Sentie, Orwell River, d. Jan. 13, 1908, aged 89, married Mary Martin, of Wood Islands, d. July 13, 1888, aged 64, with issue, among others: John, on the old homestead, married Miss Jenkins, Seal River, with issue: Benjamin, married, with issue; Margaret, wife of James Murdoch Campbell, Banker, Ceres, California, formerly of Uigg;
3. MARY, wife of Allan Finlayson, Eldon, with issue, among others: Malcolm, married Belle Anderson, Orwell Cove, with issue: Minna; Florence, wife of Charles Nelson; Alene, wife of Frank S. Reeves, Lot 48, with issue: Malcolm, and Frances; William, married Miss Ross, with issue; Mary, wife of John James Macdonald, Glashvin, with issue;
4. DONALD A., b. Feb. 26, 1826, d. June 30, 1916, merchant, Eldon, married Ann Mackenzie, Flat River, b. Oct., 1835, d. Mar., 1926, with issue: Malcolm James, D.D., New York City, married, with issue ; Daevina, wife of Dr. Harry K. Johnston, Charlottetown, with issue ; Hector A., Banker, Hutchinson, Kansas, married, with issue; Ada, wife of Arthur G. Putnam, Banker, Sackville, N.B. with issue;
5. ANNE, wife of Angus Martin, Eldon, with issue;
6. CHRISTINA, b. 1828, d. 1924, wife of William MacLeod, Sentie, Orwell River, with issue;
7. MARY, wife of Hector Mackenzie, Flat River, with issue: Margaret, wife of John Francis Martin, M.D., Eldon, with issue: Margaret, Elizabeth R.. Hector David, Mary, wife of Blair MacMillan, Calgary, with issue: Aubrey. Barrister, and Francis (B.Sc., U. of Alta.), Angus Malcolm, and Christine;
8. MALCOLM, unmarried;
9. MARGARET, unmarried;
10. ANGUS, Glashvin, Pinette, married Catherine McRae, Point Prim, with issue: Cyrus, Malcolm, on the old homestead, married Alene Macphee, with issue: Bell, wife of Rev. Mr. Cleave, Sask., with issue: John William, 46th Batt., killed in action at Vimy, Flanders ;
11. EFFIE, unmarried;
12. SARAH, wife of Robert MacWilliam, Eldon, with issue;

IV. MALCOLM, West River, married Miss MacLean, Point Prim;
V. DONALD, Surrey, married Miss McLeod, with issue ;
VI. CATHERINE, wife of Mr. McFayden, West River;
VII. MARY, wife of Findlay Dockerty, Glashvin, with issue in Seal River, and Victoria Cross;
VIII. CATHERINE, wife of Angus Dockerty, with issue, among others: Donald and Malcolm, St. Peter's Road, Cardigan;
IX. WILLIAM, Point Prim, d. Feb. 5, 1885, aged 85, married Mary Lamont, with issue, among others: Eunice, wife of Roderick MacLeod, Point Prim, with issue, among others: Essie;
X. WILLIAM, b. Skye, 1783, d. 1850; married Catherine Macpherson. Emigrated to Uigg in 1831. Issue: Malcolm, John, Donald (soldier in Civil War), Angus, Alexander, Norman, Effie, Mary, Katherine and Jessie, wife of Angus R. MacSwain, Lorne Valley, with issue: Christie A., wife of H. E. Gurney, Daniel, Mary, William and two others.
