My Canadian Experience
Report for April 2025

Set the scene with 2 videos about the elections...

Carney won't repeal anti-pipeline legislation
Sun political columnist Brian Lilley says PM Mark Carney has stated he will not repeal Bill C-69 legislation when it comes to anti-pipeline legislation. Oil and gas are Canada’s “trump card” when diversifying our economy explains Lilley then just selling to the Americans. Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre promises to do this if elected as PM.

Mark Carney hits back at Donald Trump’s tariffs, targetting $35B worth of U.S. vehicles
Prime Minister Mark Carney said the Trump tariffs “will rupture the global economy and adversely affect global economic growth” likely causing a recession in the U.S. which could bleed into Canada.

Got in my final visit from Maple Insurance where I signed off the insurance claim for my water leak.

Also got a visit from my friend Nola Crewe from Toronto who was down to attend a funeral so she spent a couple of days with me while I lent her my car so she could go down to Windsor to attend the funeral.

Mind you this meant I had to get a taxi to take me to my 6 weekly appointment with my eye specialist.

She has asked me to come over to her place in Toronto for the Easter break and I've agreed to go so also looking forward to seeing her extended family as it's now been several years since I've been to Toronto.

Seems Canada got off a bit lighter than most countries of the world on Trump's tariffs.  I also note the vote in the US Congress to exclude Canada from the Tariffs was won by a couple of votes and so now goes to the Senate for ratification or not so we'll see how this goes.

To be frank I think the damage has already been done and trust has been broken but guess we'll see how things develop.

As to the elections... the polling shows the Liberals with a lead but people are suspecting this might not be accurate as hundreds and thousands more people are attending the conservative leaders gatherings than the liberal leader is getting.

The next video shows the potential and issues around building pipelines in Canada.  For example getting Alberta oil to Quebec and Ontario they currently need to ship the oil through the US which means the US could easily stop petrol from being shipped into these two massive Provinces.

Mailed in my vote on Monday 14th for the forthcoming election.

I've voted for the Conservatives as I don't trust the Liberals with their leader complicit in dealings with China and self interest due to his various investments.

Moves are afoot in Canada to diverse our trade away from the US and see the video below as an example of what is going on...

Had a trip into Toronto to stay with Nola and her family for the Easter Holiday.  All the family attends a church service run by Nola after which she gathers them together to enjoy a feast of good food and then it's on to her house where they search for Easter Eggs.  So a great family day together.

On the Monday morning I woke up with chest pains and wanting to vomit.  I was in a bad way so called 911 to get an ambulance out to take me to hospital to get checked out.

I got to the hospital around 7.00 am and stayed overnight and was released at 10:30 am the next day. I found my heart and lungs were in good shape and it appears that I overate at the family feast.  Strange but that's what they came up with.  Mind you I have yet to eat anything since then as I just can't stand the taste of food for some reason.  I've managed to drink some water and diet coke.

They told me about a free to read book about the hospital and so have obtained a copy and it's now on the site under our Toronto page. For the Least of My Brethren A Centenary History of St. Michael’s Hospital by Irene McDonald, CSJ (1992) (pdf)

I met Nola's two new dogs and have to say I didn't like them in the least.  They barked all the time and one of them nipped me and drew blood.  [sheesh]

Anyway... I returned to my home in Chatham on Tuesday late afternoon having driven there and back.  Some changes to the roads in Toronto since I was last there but managed to find my way around.

Thank you to @joe_warmington for bringing up this very important & disheartening report to Pierre. Why isn’t this Federal report being shared everywhere? Just listen to this about Mark Carney's very own Privy Council issued a shocking report warning of a societal breakdown and economic crisis as a direct result of his proposed policies & trajectory...
